Grand Prix Masters Design & Build
The summer of 2005 was a very busy time for us! We were commissioned to design and build 15 identical cars for a new single-make series, Grand Prix Masters. We prepared the first styling sketches of the car late in June, and commenced engineering design at the start of July. The car was fully 3D modelled on CAD, allowing the parts to be manufactured by a huge range of sub-contract companies without a concern that interfacing parts wouldn’t fit.
Just 12 weeks later, after a summer of focused effort and incredibly long hours, the first car fired up in the workshop and then ran for the first time at Pembrey on 27th September. In parallel with the test program, the build of the rest of the cars was ramping up, and by the end of the first week in November, 15 cars were on their way to Kyalami (South Africa). All 15 cars ran faultlessly for the whole race weekend in the hands of some of the greatest living race car drivers. After the first event Delta took over the Race Operations management, which included setting up and running the operational structure and providing all the event staff to operate and support the cars.
